Business Operations
The development of sustainable energy & utility networks necessitates timely and appropriate investment in infrastructure including the generation, transmission and distribution components.
- Over the next decade, large changes in the UK’s energy & utilities supply chain are expected.
- By the year 2020, approximately 25% of the existing electricity generation capacity is set to retire.
- At the end of the decade gas imports totalled 53% of total gas supplies; increasing to 77% by 2015.
- There is uncertainty about future levels of demand influenced by lifestyles, demographics & environment.
- Regulatory drivers are changing the market to focus on long-term sustainable outcomes.
These changes will requires substantial new investment in power stations, electricity grids, gas, water and sewerage networks and infrastructure in order to maintain security of supply.
Simply relying on the infrastructure and solutions of the past will not be sufficient to deliver the services of the future.
Energy companies need to find more sustainable ways of supplying, as well as conserving energy. This also has a direct bearing on how well companies manage their existing assets to deliver this energy; this is critical now, as any innovation takes time to deliver effective results.
Going forward, energy and utility companies must put the protection of consumers and the planet at the top of their agenda. They must ensure that the billions of pounds to be invested over the coming years are used effectively to ensure efficient and value for money service delivery, greatly reduce energy waste, increase the proportion of sustainable low or zero carbon energy generation and safeguard the security of supply.
Industry Regulators have defined sets of regulations and target outcomes that will drive energy and utility companies to be more innovative, effective and pro-active going forward. The RIIO and AMP6+ models are ‘outcome led’, meaning that the Regulators (Ofgem/ Ofwat) through their own dialogue with end users, will determine what consumers want & will judge the energy and utility companies on their ability to deliver it efficiently.
Enzen’s Business Operations Group provide expertise, innovation and thought leadership that address these challenges and focus on delivering value adding outcomes to our long term clients.
